Boynton Beach homes, east to west

Boynton Beach covers a lot of ground, and the electrical work changes as you drive west on Boynton Beach Boulevard. Near the Intracoastal and downtown, many homes are one story concrete block houses built in the decades after World War II. West of I-95 you find 55+ communities like Leisureville, country club communities such as Hunters Run and Quail Ridge, and neighborhoods like Lake Boynton Estates. Farther west, outside the city limits but with a Boynton Beach address, newer gated communities such as the Valencia neighborhoods were built with modern wiring and larger services. Each part of town brings its own set of calls.

Older homes near the coast

In the older homes east of I-95, the original panel is often still in service, sometimes a brand like Federal Pacific or Zinsco that insurers and inspectors flag. Other common issues: two prong outlets with no ground, too few kitchen and bathroom circuits by today’s standards, and breakers that trip when a modern kitchen is running. If you are buying, selling or renewing insurance on one of these homes, a panel upgrade is often the first conversation. Our panel upgrade page explains how we approach it, and our guide to Federal Pacific and Zinsco panels explains why those brands get so much attention.

Closer to the water, salt air works on anything metal outside the house. Meter cans, exterior panels, outdoor receptacles and light fixtures corrode faster here than they do inland. We replace failing outdoor devices with weather resistant ones, add in-use covers where they belong, and check for rust inside exterior enclosures before it turns into a failure.

55+ communities

In villas and condos, most of the work is about comfort and safety: brighter, safer lighting in kitchens, halls and baths, outlets that stopped working, a new circuit where one is carrying too much, and the breaker that keeps tripping for no obvious reason. Associations usually want to know when a contractor is working in a unit, so check your community’s rules before we schedule.

Newer communities out west

Newer homes rarely need a panel replacement. Typical projects here are a Level 2 EV charger in the garage, recessed lighting in rooms that were built with a single ceiling fixture, and landscape lighting. Most of these communities have an HOA with rules for exterior changes, so check with yours before you plan outdoor lighting.

Hurricane season in Boynton Beach

Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30. Before a storm, know where your main breaker is and test your GFCI outlets. After one, if water reached outlets, the panel or anything plugged in at floor level, leave those circuits off and have them checked before you restore power. Stay away from downed lines and report them to FPL.

Questions people ask

Which Reef Electrical number serves Boynton Beach?

Boynton Beach is in Palm Beach County, so call 561-468-REEF. The line is answered 24/7 for electrical emergencies.

I live in a 55+ community. Do you work inside villas and condos?

Yes. We handle repairs, lighting and panel work in villas and condos. Many associations want to be told before a contractor starts, so check your community's rules and we will work within them.

Can you install an EV charger in a newer home in west Boynton?

Usually, yes. Newer homes often have the capacity for a Level 2 charger, but we confirm it with a load calculation before we install anything. If your HOA has rules about visible equipment, check those first.
