A planned city, growing older
Coral Springs was laid out as a planned community, and it shows: wide, landscaped boulevards, neighborhoods built around lakes and golf, and HOAs that keep things consistent. Eagle Trace was built around a golf course. Turtle Run, Ramblewood and Maplewood are established neighborhoods of single family homes. Downtown Coral Springs has newer townhomes and apartments. Many homes here were built during the city’s early growth decades, and their electrical systems are now just as old.
Original panels and wiring
Inland Coral Springs avoids most of the salt air corrosion that coastal cities fight, but time catches up with any electrical system. Older homes commonly show:
- original panels with worn breakers, sometimes obsolete brands such as Federal Pacific or Zinsco
- panels with every space used, leaving no room for new circuits
- aluminum branch circuit wiring in some homes from the late 1960s and early 1970s, which needs proper connections at every device
- outdoor outlets and fixtures worn out by sun and rain
A panel upgrade solves capacity and condition at once, and it is often what makes the next project possible. If you are unsure about yours, our article on the signs a panel needs an upgrade is a quick read.
EV chargers
Coral Springs is a city of driveways and two car garages, and Level 2 EV chargers are a common request. A charger is a large continuous load. Before we install one, we run a load calculation on your home. Many homes can take a charger on the existing panel. Some need a panel upgrade first. Either way, you will know before any work begins.
Lighting under HOA rules
Inside, owners replace dated fixtures with recessed lighting and better kitchen lighting. Outside, landscape and security lighting is popular, but most communities have architectural guidelines for exterior changes. Check with your HOA first and plan the fixtures with their rules in mind.
Storm season inland
Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30. Inland does not mean safe from wind and water. Before the season, test your GFCIs and know where your main breaker is. After a storm, if water got into the garage, outlets or panel, leave those circuits off until they are checked. Report downed lines to FPL.
