Parkland homes

Parkland sits at the northwest corner of Broward County, against the Palm Beach County line and near the edge of the Everglades. Most of its housing is newer and larger than in the coastal cities: planned communities like Heron Bay, Parkland Golf & Country Club, Parkland Bay, MiraLago and Cypress Head, with two story homes, big garages and landscaped lots. The city also has older properties on larger lots that predate the planned communities, and those come with older electrical systems.

EV charging

Big garages and long commutes make a Level 2 EV charger a natural fit for many Parkland homes. Newer houses are usually built with larger electrical services, which often leaves room for a charger, but we never assume. A charger is a continuous load, so we do a load calculation that accounts for everything else in the house, including pool pumps and other big equipment. For two EV households, we look at running two circuits or using chargers that share power. Our guide to home Level 2 charging in South Florida covers the basics.

Chandeliers and interior lighting

Two story foyers, dining rooms and great rooms are part of the Parkland floor plan, and so are big fixtures. Chandelier installation at that height takes planning: a box and support rated for the weight, the right wiring, and safe staging to hang it. Inside, owners also add recessed lighting to rooms that came with builder grade fixtures.

Landscape lighting and HOAs

Large lots, palms and pools make landscape lighting one of the most rewarding upgrades for a Parkland home. Most communities here have HOA architectural rules for exterior changes, including fixture styles and placement. Check with your HOA before we design the layout. Inland Parkland avoids most salt spray, but sun, rain and sprinklers are hard on outdoor fixtures, so we use fixtures and connections rated for wet locations.

Older properties

On the older, larger lot properties, the work looks more like what we do in coastal cities: original panels, outbuildings fed by long runs, and exterior equipment worn by decades of weather. A panel upgrade is often the place to start.

Storm season

Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30. Wind damage and power outages reach inland communities too. Before the season, know where your main breaker is and test your GFCIs. After a storm, have any water exposed outlets or equipment checked before you restore power.

Questions people ask

Can my home handle two EV chargers?

Possibly. It depends on your service size, your existing load and the chargers you choose. Some chargers can share one circuit and split power between two cars. We run a load calculation and lay out the options.

Do you hang chandeliers in high ceilings?

Yes. Two story foyers and great rooms are common in Parkland. We plan the support for the fixture's weight, the wiring, and how it will be reached later for cleaning and bulb changes.
